Ruth is a Palliative Care Postgraduate Specialisation Lead in the Department of General Practice and Primary Care at the University of Auckland. She runs courses on ‘Psychosocial Issues in Palliative Care’ and ‘Ethics, Culture and Societal Approaches to Death’ and also works as a social worker at Hospice West Auckland. Her research is in the field of palliative care social work, currently focusing on the experiences of GPs and primary healthcare providers in delivering palliative care to strengthen the workforce and enhance service delivery. She is also part of the Te Arai Palliative Care research group consulting on the palliative care needs for refugee communities.

This webinar presentation will explore the critical roles of palliative care social work and core social work skills which play a pivotal role in:

• addressing the emotional and psychological needs of both patients and their families
• facilitating difficult conversations
• providing holistic, compassionate care in end-of-life scenarios
This session would benefit social workers and also enhance collaboration and harmonious work among other healthcare professionals.
