DR ROBERT YOUNG
General Physician, Auckland City Hospital,

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of hospitalisation and death in New Zealand and disproportionately affects Maori. COPD is both underdiagnosed and undertreated despite the availability of effective treatments.

This webinar will explore how to identify those at risk of COPD and how to assess its severity and impact on patients. Specific management approaches will be discussed in addition to the wider implications of being diagnosed with COPD and the related comorbidities requiring treatment.

Dr Young is also Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland currently lecturing to medical students and post-graduate science students. His research and clinical interests focus on the primary prevention and early diagnosis of smoking-related respiratory diseases, COPD, and lung cancer.
