Dr Michal Boyd is a Nurse Practitioner and Honorary Associate Professor with the School of Nursing and Department of Geriatric Medicine, University of Auckland. She practices with Equinox Health Ltd, a primary healthcare provider for aged care facilities. Dr Boyd has published widely about older people’s health. Her main research interests are caring for older adults living in the community, aged care, and advanced nursing practice.
About the presentation:
Cognitive decline in older people is a significantly complex issue to diagnose and treat. Therefore, it is essential to assess for dementia, delirium and depression to provide the best treatment. This presentation will discuss the signs and symptoms of dementia, depression and delirium in older people. In addition, assessment tools will be discussed, and clinical management, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
