With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, clinicians and health services must prioritise patient perspectives on AI use in care and the secondary use of health information in AI development and testing. Patients must be able to trust health services to use their information responsibly and integrate AI into care appropriately. Through transparency and good AI governance, trust can be built and maintained, yet if lost, it is difficult to repair and carries wider implications across healthcare.
