Rob Keating

Critical Care Flight Paramedic

Bio:

Rob is a Critical Care Flight Paramedic who has been involved in Medical Rescue for the past 30 years. Born in Durban, South Africa, his career started in the early 90’s when paramedicine was first evolving. South Africa’s busy and demanding case load honed Rob’s clinical skills, making him an expert in handling trauma and mass casualty situations.

In 2003, Rob left frontline ambulance work to manage remote hospitals on offshore vessels for the Oil and Gas Industry. Later, in 2008, he relocated to New Zealand to return to his passion for frontline prehospital medicine. Rob worked for St John Ambulance, primarily on road ambulances, however, he also gained aeromedical experience on the locally based rescue helicopters, and as an educator.

In 2018, Rob joined the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter team in Taupo, as a fulltime Critical Care Flight Paramedic. Rob continues to work in Taupo, and still has a passion for aeromedicine and evidence-based medicine.

His topics include:

  • Topics that relate to emergencies / aeromedicine / paramedicine / prehospital
  • Managing specialised patient groups – eg combative, entrapped, bariatric, infective, blast-injured, haemorrhaging.
