PROFESSOR KATHERINE CLARK, MBBS MMed (pain) PhD FRACP, FAChPM
Professor Katherine Clark is Clinical Director for Palliative Care (Northern Sydney Local Health District Palliative Care Network) and Senior Clinical Advisor in Palliative Care to the NSW Ministry of Health. Katherine is also the clinical lead for the national Palliative Care Outcomes Collaborative (PCOC) based at the University of Wollongong and holds academic appointments at the University of Sydney, University of Technology and University of Wollongong.
While predominantly working as a clinical lead, she remains an active collaborator in a number of grants. In the past, she has been CIA on an NHMRC funded grant that aimed to better define how constipation symptoms are investigated and managed in palliative care and is the current CIA on a NHMRC funding project to compare the efficacy of two different medications in the management of neuropathic pain in cancer. Katherine has published more than 90-peer reviewed and invited publications and a number of text books.
This presentation will discuss:
• The pathophysiology, assessment, and management of the more common gastrointestinal symptoms in serious illness with the aim of summarising approaches to clinical management
• Impact on quality of life, morbidity and mortality
