SALLY FLEMING, Nurse Practitioner, Team Leader for residential support service, Otago Community Hospice

Palliative care is often misunderstood as something offered only at the very end of life but in reality, it’s about improving quality of life. This session, curated for residential and community, explores what palliative
care really is, who it’s for, and how a palliative approach can support people with a wide range of chronic and life-limiting conditions. We’ll discuss the goals of care, recognising “normal” dying, and how to communicate in ways that affirm life’s final stage as a natural process.

Participants will gain clarity on roles across generalist and specialist services, where people receive care, and what this means for Aotearoa’s ageing population.
