Dr Ryan Paul, (Ngaati Maru, Hauraki) Endocrinologist Te Whatu Ora Waikato, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Waikato

Ryan is a Clinical Associate of the Maurice Wilkins Centre, the Immediate Past-President of the New Zealand Society of Endocrinology (NZSE) and the current President Elect of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD). He has recently been appointed as co-Chair of the Mahitahi Matehuka (Diabetes National network) and convenes the New Zealand National Diabetes Guidance Group. He established the Advanced Diabetes Management Course in Aotearoa and was awarded the NZ Medical Educator of the year in 2019. He has a passion for ensuring best and equitable care for all people with diabetes in Aotearoa including at the end of life.

This presentation will provide an overview of managing all types of diabetes in palliative care, including considerations at the end of life. It will cover approaches to new technology in type 1 diabetes, such as continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapy, as well as recent medications in type 2 diabetes, including empagliflozin, dulaglutide, and liraglutide. A prolonged Q&A session will follow to address any questions you may have about diabetes care.
