Matthew is an academic & clinical psychiatrist of old age working for Te Whatu Ora – Waitaha at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch. He has regional and national leadership responsibilities in relation to services for people with dementia. Matthew is the specialist advisor in respect of the national HealthPathways suite of cognitive impairment pathways.
This presentation will discuss:
Diagnosing and managing dementia can sometimes be hard. Matthew will discuss some of the challenges and strengths of the HealthPathways suite of cognitive impairment pathways and share some innovative solutions that primary care practices around the country have shared with him, with a focus on ways forward for rural teams, ideas about working successfully with Maori whanau, Pasifika aiga / famili, and families from other
cultures, and some tips for engaging in this process with
young-onset patients.
